malia + mike = beach bliss

In late January, Salutations & Soirees was selected to plan the wedding of Malia and Mike at Fripp Island, SC.  This beautiful beach destination was the perfect spot for this lovely couple to say “I Do!”.  Malia and Mike, who live in NJ, were looking forward to their intimate ceremony of 50 guests and spending lots of time with friends and family during their special weekend.

The wedding was on June 4th, leaving us approximately 4 months to plan their big day from start to finish.  Malia and Mike chose gorgeous shades of blue and white to compliment the ceremony site.  The seaside ceremony took place in front of the beautiful home that housed the reception following.

The day prior, all the furniture was removed from the home and we went to work transforming the home into the space Malia had envisioned.  Malia and I met 1 time during the planning process to pick out the linens, sample the food and cake and decide on the layout.  She wanted to incorporate some florals from Hawaii, where the bride was born.  The Plumerias added this hint of Hawaii to the evening along with the sweet aroma that they gave off.  Just Weddings Flowers by Kaye was able to capture the tropical feel for Malia, but with a touch of tradition with the Hydrangeas.

She also wanted her guests to be able to enjoy the scenery, the beach!  The home they chose to host the evenings events allowed us to do this by utilizing the large outdoor balcony that overlooked the ocean.  Guests mingled before the ceremony began and after by the coordinating cocktail tables and lounge area before heading inside for dinner that was served on gorgeous white pin tuck linens.  The rental company in Beaufort, Amazing Event Rentals, had all the items that we needed to create this fantastic affair!

This intimate ceremony and reception was enjoyed by all and I wish Malia and Mike all the best in their new life together!

May Matrimony

Summer is officially here and that means long, hot days, cookouts and of course WEDDINGS!  In May, I had the opportunity to work with an incredible bride over several months to help plan and prepare for her big day.

Rebecca and Doug’s ceremony and reception were held at Larkin’s Sawmill at North Main in early May.  The weather was absolutely perfect on the day of the event!  So much so that the windows were opened up to the outdoors in the patio area where the ceremony occurred.  The spring breeze was the perfect compliment to the the beautiful flowers and arch that were done by Just Weddings-Flowers by Kaye.
Her color selections depicted the perfect look for the rustic venue with shades of green and cream.  The guests enjoyed their dinner in the main event room where the bride had hanging lanterns brought in to compliment the draping fabric that currently hangs in the Sawmill.  The bride and groom then danced the night away with music from DJ Jim Howell with Alley Cats DJ in the patio area.  This bride and groom really knew how to “cut a rug” and so did their guests.  It was a fun evening had by all that ended with guests and the bride and groom being escorted downtown Greenville in a trolley.

Congratulations Rebecca & Doug!  I wish you all the best in your new life together!

Charleston Fashion Week-Spring Bridal Show

•March 29, 2011 • Leave a Comment

This past weekend I had the opportunity to visit Charleston, SC for the Charleston Spring Bridal Show that is apart of Charleston Fashion Week.  If you are a wedding “junkie” like myself then I would highly recommend this event in the future.  The show displayed upcoming trends and styles for wedding gowns as well as displayed local designers work.  There were some amazing gowns and each designer had a distinct style to their dresses.  Some of my favorites were Modern Trousseau, White, Maddison Row & Bella Bridesmaid and Heidi Elnora.  Each dress that came out made me want to “re-do” my own just so I could wear one of these beautiful dresses!

The tent where the runway show took place was beautifully decorated and did I mention that I snagged a front row seat?!  The overall style for 2011 is going to be vintage, antique brooches and lots of lace.  Ivory seemed to be a favorite among the designers and there was even a blush and a charcoal gray gown that took front and center during the show.  The traditional, classic ball gowns, although still popular are now being embellished with tulle, brooches and designs incorporated into the materials.  Sleek, long dresses (beautiful for a beach wedding) made an appearance during the show and short “Audrey Hepburn” style dresses were also popular.  The show left onlookers, brides-to-be and fellow wedding professionals in awe of the gorgeous things that are to come during wedding season 2011!

Company Announcement

I want to start this post by saying that Salutations & Soirees continues to amaze me each month as I watch us grow!  We just fell upon our 2nd anniversary and I am humbled by how far we have come.  Recently, we even received recognition from one our invitation vendors, Carlson Craft, for the Distinguished Dealer award.  Each year Carlson Craft presents only a few select businesses with this prestigious award for outstanding performance and exceptional sales achievements.  We were thrilled and honored to receive this award!  This business would not have been possible without the support of great friends and family and of course all of our wonderful clients that we have come to know over the past 2 years.  With this being said, change is also inevitable as things continue to flourish and grow.  When I looked up the definition of change it can be defined as “to make or become different.”  In today’s world nobody likes change because it can lead to uncertainty and in this day in age we certainly do not need anymore uncertainty!

As many of you know, Salutations & Soirees was founded by myself, Amy Dacus, and my friend and partner, Shannon Reed.  Unfortunately, uncertainty has become a constant in Shannon’s everyday life and as a result she will be stepping down as Co-Owner of Salutations & Soirees.  Her responsibilities at home have become her number one priority as her family needs her there the most right now.  I am attaching the letter that Shannon wrote below to announce her departure for our clients, friends and family.  She will continue to do one-on-one consultations with anyone who is in need of stationery products, but will no longer be involved with the event planning aspect of the business or assume ownership.

Business will continue as usual with Salutations & Soirees and I have taken on the responsibility of Owner and Lead Planner for all events.  My team of assistants are ready to jump on board for the upcoming wedding season and I assure you all there is no reason for concern.  I will also continue carrying all of our current invitation lines and will still be offering the same level of service to all of our clients.  Please feel free to contact me directly should you have any questions or concerns at 864.430.1882 or Invitations@SalutationsAndSoirees.com.  I welcome any comments.

Please join me in wishing Shannon the best in her future endeavors!

Oh the Places You’ll Go!

•February 27, 2011 • Leave a Comment

Most people remember the Dr. Seuss book titled, “Oh the Places You’ll Go,” as a great kids book or even a book that you received when you were entering a new phase of your life.  Over the past few weeks this book has taken on a whole new meaning from an event planner perspective for me.  In the past 2 weeks I have made several site visits to all sorts of venues, from the mountains to the coast!  Although I have always realized the importance of site visits prior to planning any big day, it made me realize just how important it is to see these spaces before I start designing the space to create the perfect atmosphere for your wedding.  Although pictures and videos from online help, there is no true way to know where to begin until you see the space at hand.  I managed to visit The Lake Lure Inn & Spa (Lake Lure, NC), The Davenport (Greer, SC), The Sawmill (Greenville, SC) and a private home at Fripp Island (Fripp Island, SC) during this 2 week time span and was able to start pulling the details together for my brides.

If you are not hiring a professional planner to coordinate the details of your wedding and meet with your vendors then be prepared by putting a list of questions together to ask when you visit your wedding and/or reception venue.  Some important questions to ask are:

1. What is the room capacity for this space?

2. How many people can be seated comfortably with a stage, dance floor, cake table, etc?

3. How many hours do we have the space?

4. Is there an onsite caterer that we are required to use?

5. Is there ample parking space available for the guests to park?

There are many more questions that need to be asked prior to you booking your venue.  An experienced planner knows all the right questions to ask and will help guide you through the planning process so that there are no “hick ups” the day of the wedding.  Best of luck planning your Soiree!
